Over the past 18 months, Ice Open Network has evolved into a fully operational blockchain network, supported by more than 200 validators and a growing community of users and partners across AI, DeFi, gaming, and decentralized social applications.
As we prepare to launch Online+, a showcase of what’s possible with the ION Framework, we’re also making an important change to the way our token is represented: transitioning from $ICE to $ION.
This change is primarily about alignment — between our coin, our protocol, and our overall identity.
Why the Change?
ION stands for Ice Open Network, the name of our blockchain protocol and broader ecosystem. As the ecosystem matured and the protocol became more widely adopted, aligning the ticker with the protocol name became increasingly important. By adopting $ION as the new ticker, we’re ensuring consistency across our infrastructure and communications.
This change simplifies how people refer to the network, the token, and the platform. It also helps ensure that users, builders, and partners experience a cohesive ecosystem with minimal friction.
Improving Clarity Across the Ecosystem
Clear branding is essential as we scale. Aligning the name of our protocol with its coin strengthens identity and improves recognition in:
- Token listings and bridges
- Wallet interfaces and blockchain explorers
- dApp integrations and developer tooling
- Community engagement and public communication
Previously, the ecosystem operated under the $ICE ticker while the protocol itself carried the ION name. This transition unifies both under a single identity — reinforcing clarity, coherence, and readiness for broader adoption.
Bridge & Exchange Migration Details
The migration to the $ION ticker is already in progress:
- ✅ The ION Bridge is now active from Binance Smart Chain (BSC) to Ice Open Network
- ✅ Bridging out will now return $ION, not $ICE
- 🔄 Reverse bridging (from ION to BSC) is temporarily paused and will resume once the migration completes
- 🏦 Exchanges are in the process of updating listings to reflect the $ION ticker
Holders of $ICE do not need to take any immediate action. All assets remain secure, and the migration process is being handled in a way that ensures continuity and ease of use.
Looking Ahead
The adoption of $ION marks a broader consolidation of our identity as we prepare for wider adoption. The updated ticker will serve as the foundation for:
- The rollout of Online+ and its surrounding apps
- New incentive mechanisms for participants in the ecosystem
- Broader integrations with sectors including DeFi, DePIN, and decentralized social networks
This migration supports a more unified user experience and positions the ION ecosystem for continued growth.
We’ll continue to provide updates as the process advances. For any questions, visit our official channels or check the latest migration status via the ION Bridge.
