TON Becomes The Closed Network

We are deeply disappointed by today’s announcement that all mini-apps on Telegram will now exclusively use TON as their blockchain infrastructure, effectively forcing developers onto the network. This decision not only contradicts the fundamental principles of Web3, but exposes TON’s inherently centralized nature. The Open Network (TON), which once championed a free and open Internet, has now unequivocally become The Closed Network (TCN).

TON is veering away from its promise of decentralization, moving towards what is better described as The Closed Network (TCN). By requiring all mini-app developers on Telegram to integrate exclusively with TON, they are dismantling the core Web3 principles of freedom, transparency, and choice.

This action mirrors the tactics of centralized Big Tech platforms, where users are locked into ecosystems without alternatives. The difference is that Big Tech doesn’t claim to be decentralized. TON, on the other hand, attempts to maintain the facade of being “open” while exhibiting the exact opposite in its practices.

In a truly decentralized environment, decisions like this would be put to a DAO vote, ensuring the community’s voice is heard. Yet TON operates without such mechanisms. Instead, decisions rest solely with the Durov brothers. What we see is a governance model that is completely centralized, with no input from the community. This isn’t just centralization; it’s a monopolistic grip on innovation and freedom, contrary to everything Web3 stands for.

The Issue of Privacy

Privacy is a cornerstone of Web3, but TON’s track record in this regard leaves much to be desired. Telegram, which is tightly linked to TON, has been criticized for its lack of default end-to-end encryption, exposing user data to potential breaches or misuse. Allegations of data sharing with various governmental authorities have further undermined trust, leaving users questioning how secure their communications really are.

At Ice Open Network, privacy isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a promise. All chat functionalities within our ecosystem are end-to-end encrypted by default, ensuring that one-on-one conversations are completely private and protected from third-party access. This peer-to-peer encryption guarantees that neither corporations nor governments can compromise user privacy. It starkly contrasts TON’s questionable approach, which falls short of delivering the transparency and security users deserve.

A Betrayal of Web3 Principles

Web3 is built on freedom, choice, and decentralization—values that empower developers and users to innovate without limitations. By mandating the use of TON’s blockchain, they have effectively abandoned these principles, forcing developers into a centralized ecosystem under the guise of decentralization.

This behavior is eerily reminiscent of Big Tech practices: first offering limited access to lure developers, then locking them in with no escape. Big Tech doesn’t pretend to be decentralized, but TON’s actions reveal a wolf in sheep’s clothing — claiming to uphold Web3 values while acting in direct opposition to them.

Ice Open Network: Building the Real Decentralized Future

At Ice Open Network, we’re not just talking about decentralization; we’re living it. Every protocol we develop aligns with the values of privacy, freedom, transparency, and data sovereignty. Unlike TON, we believe in giving users and developers full control over their digital journeys.

One of our flagship innovations is the Drag-and-Drop dApp Builder. Imagine creating your own decentralized applications — whether it’s a social network, chat platform, e-commerce site, video streaming service, or blog — all without writing a single line of code or anybody telling you what to build, or how to build it. This intuitive tool will enable anyone, regardless of technical expertise, to build and deploy serverless, decentralized applications for mobile or desktop. It’s designed to make Web3 open to everyone — because openness is what this space is all about.

Additionally, Ice Open Network integrates advanced cryptographic technologies to ensure privacy and security at every level. This marks a radical departure from the current status quo, providing users with a safe and transparent way to interact in the digital space without compromising their personal information.

A New Internet Rooted in Values

Ice Open Network is built on principles that TON has seemingly abandoned. Our protocols are open-source, transparent, and governed by a decentralized framework. For us, decentralization isn’t just a tool; it’s a core value, ensuring that every user has sovereignty over their data and interactions.

Where TON imposes restrictions, we offer freedom. Where TON centralizes decision-making, we empower the community. Where TON claims privacy but fails to deliver, we ensure that user data is protected by design.

Our mission is ambitious: to create The Blueprint for the New Internet, an Internet where people — not corporations or single, powerful individuals — are in control. By building step by step with integrity and dedication, we are crafting a future that aligns with the original vision of Web3: a decentralized, user-centric ecosystem.

The Choice is Clear

For those who believe in the true potential of Web3, the choice is evident. Ice Open Network is more than just a project — it’s a movement built on trust, transparency, and unwavering commitment to the ideals that define a decentralized Internet. While TON’s recent actions reveal its flaws, we remain steadfast in our mission to deliver a clean, ethical, and scalable alternative.

The future of the Internet will not be built on compromises or centralized decisions. It will be built on trust, values, and the belief that everyone deserves sovereignty over their digital lives. And that future is Ice Open Network.
